  •  tell us a little bit about yourself...

hi, im devon. i live in a quirky town in north san diego, california. the number of groomers and antique stores rivals the amount of people here, but the coffee and surf shops are always full. i have two daughters ages 2 1/2 and 4 months! i am a storyteller. i don't know if that actually qualifies as a job, but hopefully someday it will. i have a blog called 'tale of a mermaid' where i document the adventures and misadventures of our family.

  • what brings you the most joy as a mother?

watching my children learn new things, play loudly in the fresh air, care for themselves, each other, friends and strangers and fall in love with simple pleasures like waves crashing on the beach and a tea kettle whistling on a cold, quiet morning.

  • your life (or) family motto?

there are so many quotes i would cross stitch onto a pillow if i liked that sort of thing or was capable of doing it. this quote by mary oliver has always inspired and resonated with me as a writer: "pay attention. be astonished. tell about it."

as a person trying to navigate the world, i love c.s. lewis' quote: "courage, dear heart."

and as a parent: "do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives. such striving may seem admirable, but it is the way of foolishness. help them instead to find the wonder and the marvel of an ordinary life. show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples and pears. show them how to cry when pets and people die. show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand. and make the ordinary come alive for them. the extraordinary will take care of itself." by william martin.

  • what is your favorite beach in the world?

this beach with the swing set in the bahamas from the pictures would be hard to top because we made such fun memories as a family there, but i have to include a beach with surf too, so i think that would be either namotu island in fiji or kata beach in thailand.

  • your next travel destination...
